Terms.
These are the rules of the road for Stepa. By using the app you agree to them. We’ve tried to keep them readable.
1. About these terms
These terms form a binding agreement between you and SocialClimb Marketing Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company no. 16858678) with registered office at 67 Illingworth, Windsor, United Kingdom, SL4 4UP (“we,” “us,” or “Stepa”). They cover both the website at getstepa.com and the Stepa mobile app. If you don’t agree to them, please don’t use Stepa.
2. About Stepa
Stepa is a step-tracking app built around walking with the people you love. It uses your phone’s built-in motion sensor as a pedometer, lets you build small private circles of friends, and shows you hand-picked walking loops near home.
Stepa is now available on iPhone and Android:
- It is free to download and use. Some features are part of Stepa Pro, an optional paid subscription.
- Stepa Pro is billed through your App Store or Google Play account, and you manage or cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
- Features may change, be added, or be removed as the app develops.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use Stepa. If you’re under 16, please don’t sign up — we don’t knowingly collect data from children, and accounts found to belong to under-16s will be deleted.
You must be a real person, signing up under your real name, with accurate details. No bots, no fake accounts, no impersonation.
4. Your account
When you sign up, you create an account with your email (or via Sign in with Apple / Google). You are responsible for keeping your login secure. If you suspect someone else is using your account, email us at hello@getstepa.com immediately and we’ll lock it.
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, or by emailing us. Deletion is permanent and removes your steps, friends, and duels within 30 days (see the privacy notice for the full retention timeline).
5. Acceptable use
When using Stepa, you agree NOT to:
- Fake your steps. Strapping your phone to a fan, a dog, or a metronome is cheating — and you’ll only ruin your friends’ trust in the leaderboards.
- Harass, bully, or harm any other Stepa user. The whole point of small circles is that they should feel safe.
- Impersonate anyone else, or sign up using someone else’s identity.
- Scrape, automate, or reverse-engineer the app, the API, or the website — except where you have a right to do so that cannot be signed away, such as the right to decompile for interoperability under EU or UK software law.
- Use Stepa for any commercial purpose without our written permission. Personal use is welcome and encouraged.
- Try to access data, accounts, or systems you don’t own.
- Upload anything illegal, hateful, or harmful in your profile, friend names, or duel messages.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules. We may also report serious violations to the relevant authorities.
6. Intellectual property
Stepa, the Stepa name, the footprints logo, the app, the website, and all the design elements are owned by us. You don’t get any rights to them by using Stepa.
Your data — your steps, your routes, your friend list, your duels — belongs to you. We hold it on your behalf and process it only to provide Stepa to you and your circle. We do not sell, license, or share it with third parties for any commercial purpose.
7. Disclaimers
Stepa is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, so far as the law allows. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected — nothing here removes the guarantees the law gives you about goods and digital content. We do not guarantee that:
- The app will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
- The pedometer will be perfectly accurate every day.
- Your data will never be lost or corrupted (though we try hard).
- The features you love today will exist tomorrow.
Use Stepa at your own discretion. If accuracy matters for medical or professional reasons, please use a clinically validated device.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SocialClimb Marketing Ltd will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of Stepa. Our total liability for any claim relating to Stepa is capped at £50 — which is roughly the value of a decent pair of walking shoes, and reflects the fact that Stepa’s core features are free to use.
Nothing in these terms excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer in the UK or the European Economic Area, that includes any liability the law does not let us cap, and the £50 limit above does not apply to it.
9. Termination
You can stop using Stepa at any time, for any reason. Delete the app and (optionally) your account.
We can suspend or terminate your access if you break these terms, if we’re required to by law, or if we’re shutting Stepa down for any reason. If we shut down voluntarily, we’ll give you at least 60 days’ notice and a way to export your data.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects when. If the change is material we’ll email you and ask you to re-accept before continuing to use Stepa.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute that can’t be resolved by emailing us first will be subject to the jurisdiction of the English courts.
If you are a consumer resident in the European Economic Area, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts. We may only bring proceedings against you there.
12. Contact
Questions, complaints, account problems, or anything else — email hello@getstepa.com. Real humans read it. Harry, Seb, or Ollie will reply.
To delete your account and data, use the self-service form at getstepa.com/delete, or email us with the subject “Delete my data” from the address you signed up with. See the privacy notice for the full retention timeline after deletion.
